Leveraging Technologies to Increase Safety & Production While Minimizing Costs

Mining is an industry that has existed for decades. Now, it is more important than ever. The global demands for fuel, energy and rare earth metals is rapidly increasing. The technology of the present has the power to extract more minerals, from more challenging surfaces than ever before. The 2nd Mine Site Automation and Communication is the only conference that will bring together Mining Experts for a candid discussion on the latest technologies and how to implement them in a safe and cost effective manner.

Last January, we launched this event to great acclaim. The knowledge level of our speakers and participants, as well as our familiarity of the burning issues within the industry set this event apart from any other in this space.

This summit will provide insight into how mining companies can leverage technologies, spanning all the stages of the Mine Site, to increase productivity, decrease costs, and build a culture of safe productivity.

Mine Site Technologies, Sydney, N.S.W., Australia continues to make major investments in Eastern Europe and has successfully received GOST certification in Russia for both PED (Personal Emergency Device and ICCL Caplamp) and the ImPact Wi-Fi product suite. This certification opens the door for mines in Russia to use the PED and ImPact systems, which are considered to be two of the most reliable and effective emergency and operational communications systems available to the underground mining industry. With the overwhelming response Mine Site Technologies received at MINExpo from around the globe, including Russia, this certification could not have come at a better time.

The ImPact technology suite is designed to meet the communication infrastructure and application requirements of mines in the 21st century. The ImPact Digital System complements other communication technologies, ensuring the mine’s overall communication system not only meets the safety requirements, but enables optimum productivity from all their mining assets. The ImPact 802.11 Wireless LAN protocol / Wi-Fi compliant digital system enables automation, VoIP communication, vehicle intelligence, proximity detection, text messaging, video, and any other wi-fi enabled application.

The PED system uses a proprietary ultra-low frequency signal to transmit text messages through solid rock – “through the earth” technology. The transmission system can be installed on the surface to send a signal to miners who are working underground, regardless of their location. Installation on the surface means that PED is less vulnerable to the day-to-day rigors of the underground mining environment, which adds to its reliability and supports keeping maintenance costs to a minimum. Messages can be sent to individuals, select groups of workers, or, in the case of an emergency, all employees underground.

Lloyd Zenari, CEO, announced, “These approvals open a new door of opportunity for Mine Site Technologies in Russia, and combined with our existing ATEX approvals and significant investment in global markets such as Eastern Europe, will enable our customers to continue enhancing safety, automation and productivity through the application of our mine-spec technologies.”

Mine Site Technologies (MST) is the global leader in communication technologies dedicated to the mining industry. MST began 23 years ago by providing the mining industry with the first commercially available PED (Personal Emergency Device) using Through-The-Earth (TTE) technology. MST continues to be a driving force in bringing new technologies to the mining industry including the creation of the “ImPact – One Network” solution for today’s digital mine. The primary drivers for all MST product development s are in providing the customer with the opportunity for improving their productivity and at the same time enhancing their safety.

MINExpo – the world’s largest mining exhibition being held in Las Vegas, NV, USA – September 24 -26, 2012 – provides Mine Site Technologies the opportunity to showcase its newest and the most advanced communication technologies. “ImPact”, the wireless 802.11 standards based network communications system, provides its users with simplicity, reliability, expandability, and unsurpassed functionality in the mining environment. MST will have an operating ImPact system at it stand in the North Hall, #2371 to provide first-hand, hands-on demonstrations of the true functionality of the ImPact system. Included will be the MinePhone VoIP telephone handset and the ICCL (Integrated Communications Cap Lamp) that incorporates text messaging and tracking into a single cap lamp product.

MST will showcase its full range of products:

• ImPact – Underground Digital Communications and Tracking System
• Tagging Systems – Personnel and vehicle tracking
• VIP – Vehicle Intelligence Platform: real-time vehicle diagnostics and payload data system
• VDV – Leaky Feeder Radio System
• Wireless Mesh – High bandwidth mobile networks; underground and surface
• ICCL – Integrated Communications Cap Lamp
• MinePhone – In mine / mine purposed VoIP wireless communications
• PED – Personal Emergency Device: TTE (Through-The-Earth) emergency and general communications system
• BlastPED – Remote blast initiation system using the PED transmission system
• Complementary partner products

The Mine Site Technologies stand will be a must-stop location at MINExpo for all who are interested in mine communication technologies. In addition, MST’s ultimate vision is to be the partner of choice for underground and surface mining communications infrastructure, world-wide. Working on six continents, MST’s offices and service support centers are strategically located in the world’s primary mining regions and will be well represented at MINExpo with MST personnel on hand from all of those regions.

At MST we train our employees, design our products, operate our business, and support customer safety initiatives to create a global culture of safety. This is an integral part of our corporate culture and is reflected in all that we do, including MINExpo.

Mine Site Technologies has continued its strategic expansion with the opening of its newest sales and support office in Europe. Located in Berlin, Germany, the office is centrally located to support MST’s existing European customers and provide a foothold location for continued expansion throughout Europe, Russia, and other CIS countries.

Mine Site Technologies has had a presence in Europe for years through strategic partnerships with independent representatives and distributors. Those partnerships will continue and will now be supported by an MST office located within the region. A good example is the cooperation agreement that MST has with Haso S.C. in Poland.

Coinciding with the opening of this new office in Berlin are new cooperation agreements signed with “Promtex” in Moscow which will focus on Russian mineral mining customers, and “Research and Production Company – Complex Automated Systems”, in Tomsk, Russia which will focus on supporting coal mining customers throughout Russia.

Mike Foletti, MST’s General Manager – International, commented, “The appointment of Igor Korolev as our new Vice President – ERCA (Europe, Russia, Central Asia), combined with the creation of our new sales and support office in Berlin is a long term commitment by MST to the ongoing support of our customers and resellers in this region. We have recently installed new ImPact Communications and Tracking systems in both Norway and Turkey which further demonstrates the global mining industry’s continued investment in our solutions and technologies.”

The international expansion of Mine Site Technologies is not unique to Europe. MST’s footprint continues to expand throughout Canada, South America, Africa, and Asia. Customer demand for MST’s unique “ImPact” wireless mining communications system is quickly pulling the company into new international markets. These new mining customers are quickly learning the benefits that the MST ImPact “One Network” system can provide in enhanced productivity and safety.
